Carol Edwards began dialysis in September 2000. Her renal failure resulted from hypertension. Unfortunately, she has also had several serious bouts with other illnesses which included heart valve replacement. During this time she recalls when she promised God that if he allowed her to get back on her feet again she would continue to give back.
After gaining her strength Carol reentered the workforce as a Social Worker in 2008. She has also been a single mother for years and has successfully raised two "men".
Sadly, within the 14 years of receiving her treatments in the dialysis clinics she observed that dialysis patients are not treated with the dignity and respect afforded to other chronic or end stage patients. She states that dialysis patients generate billions in revenue for the owners of the clinics, the doctors, the nurses, the administrators, the technicians, etc. however our rights as human beings are trampled and ignored as if we are an irrelevant part of society. It is important that we are noticed and heard.
Her philosophy is, "Dialysis is what I do to survive..it does not define me".
Frank discussions with Dialysis patient's, healthcare workers, doctors and clinics about care issues in Dialysis.
An open forum to help patients and caregivers work together to improve training and the overall health of patients.

**May Is National Stroke Awareness Month***
New Educational Campaign
Learn The ‘Fibs or Facts’ About the Risk of stroke…and much more
AN EDUCATIONAL CAMPAIGN AIMS TO RAISE AWARENESS ABOUT ATRIAL FIBRILLATION (AFIB), A TYPE OF IRREGULAR HEARTBEAT NOT CAUSED BY A HEART VALVE PROBLEM, AND ITS ASSOCIATED INCREASED RISK OF STROKE
An educational campaign called “Fibs or Facts” is designed to raise awareness about AFib not caused by a heart valve problem and its associated increased risk of stroke. AFib affects approximately 5.8 million people in the U.S., and this condition puts people at a five times greater risk of stroke than those without it.
The “Fibs or Facts” campaign website www.FibsOrFacts.com features an educational quiz to test people’s knowledge of the fibs and the facts of AFib and its associated increased risk for stroke. For each person who completes the “Fibs or Facts” quiz, Bristol-Myers Squibb and Pfizer will donate $1 to National Stroke Association, up to $35,000.
Dr. James A. Reiffel, a Professor of Clinical Medicine from Columbia University College of Physicians & Surgeons, shares with our Life Lessons audience the importance of understanding the condition and its associated increased risk of stroke, and of discussing treatment options with your doctor to help reduce the risk of stroke.
Well, we apparently survived the weekend, but with the way us on Twitter were acting starting Friday, you'd think we'd all be dead from heart attacks by now.
But alas, the Mets did not put us out of our misery, and they have all but done so to themselves in a lackluster NL East. Standing only 3.5 games behind the 1st place Atlanta Braves after losing 2 of 3 to the 2nd place Nationals, maybe that's what makes it all the more frustrating.
So, while the Mets take the day off, our fandom never does. Joining Sam Maxwell on the 75th episode tonight at 6pm ET are Site Editor Danny Abriano and Senior Staff Writer Mike Lecolant, the Brooklyn Trolley Blogger. They will also be joined by the Faith and Fear in Flushing duo, Greg Prince and Jason Fry, with Jason making his 1st ever appearance on the Rising Apple Report.
So, make sure you join us at 6pm ET for the 90-minute-or-so venting session. There needs to be a valve somewhere, right?
Congenital Heart Defect (or CHD) Awareness is an extremely important issue. Congenital heart defects (heart defects present at birth) are the #1 Birth Defect. While a commonly reported statistic is 1 in 100 babies are born with a heart defect, that statistic does NOT include the most common CHD – bicuspid aortic valve. In fact, that statistic does NOT include a number of CHDs. That means that more than 1 baby in 100 is born with a CHD. Congenital heart defects also kill more babies than any other birth defect. In the United States there are 40,000 babies born every year with a CHD. There will be one million babies born worldwide with a CHD and 100,000 of them will not live to see their 1st birthday. While these numbers are staggering, there are still many people who are unaware of the fact that babies can be born with CHDs. We must raise awareness to stress the importance of funding research to prevent future generations of children from dying and suffering from this birth defect.
Noted journalist ALAN GELL interviews CHRIS WINCEK, Dodge Journey Brand Manager. Gell was attending the annual Spring Roundup conducted by TAWA (Texas Auto Writers Association) at the Texas Motor Speedway.
The Dodge Journey Crossroad was entered in two competitive categories at the event -- BEST VALUE and ACTIVITY VEHICLE. There were over 50 vehicles in competition, going on the track and off-track, taking short and long 'loops' around the facility grounds. The Dodge Journey won as Runner-Up in the Activity Vehicle category, which was announced at the Awards Dinner on April 28th.
The 2014 Dodge Journey Crossroad AWD at the event was a Redline 2-Coat Pearl Exterior paint with a black interior. It sported leather seats with Sport Mesh inserts. The Crossroad was powered by a 3.6-liter V6, 24 valve engine matched with a 6-speed automatic transmission.
The interview was conducted on-site at the Texas Motor Speedway during the day's driving activities conducted by the Texas Auto Writers.
