Named after the father of supermodel and fellow Congolese Noella Coursaris, we’ll spotlight this fine organization and its upcoming fundraiser, taking place this Friday, June 26, 2009 in New York City. As its press release reads, “The Georges Malaika Foundation (GMF) -- GMF is committed to solving the education crisis in the Democratic Republic of Congo and raising the literacy rate for Congolese women. GMF sponsors young girls to attend school by providing them with the financial support and access to a schoolhouse. All proceeds from Protea (the event name) will go towards funding the construction of the first schoolhouse. Protea, a central and southern African flower, symbolizes diversity and courage and represents the courage and diversity of these young women. Join us in celebrating and promoting the future for these young women.” So people, tune it, and help make a difference in the Congo…
