Welcome to another PNW Black History Month program.  We continue our Black History Programming (a special time of reflection and enlightenment on African Americans for our nation) with guests: Mr. Lawrence Hamm - Founder of Peoples Organization for Progress (POP), and community advocate/activist.  Mr. Hamm will briefly discuss the importance of community activism and self determination, and the role it has served for Black History.  Mr. Michael Clarke - Rastafarian historian, community advocate, and spoken word artist.  Mr. Clarke will briefly give a history of the Jamaican based religious group known as Rastafari, their origin and how they relate to the African Diaspora.  Mr. Clarke will also dispel myths of the religion, and share some of his spoken word artistry!  Dr, Akil Khalfani - Professor, Director of  the Africana Institute - Essex County College, Actor, Author, Sociologist.  Dr. Khalfani will discuss the crucial importance of African-African American Studies today (especially in urban and Black School districts) including a brief African American history going back to the African Diaspora and middle passage.  Dr. Khalfani will also share what he sees as challenges African Americans collectively are faced with today as well as opportunities that need to be addressed for the Race and culture to advance going forward.  You will want to catch this interview especially if you influence or relate to Black youth!
