What is Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)? First don’t worry; it is diagnosed in 2% of the general population. So what is the criterion? And who does it affect most often? Women are diagnosed with BPD, so of that 2%, of the general population, it occurs in 75% women. One of the co-occurring disorders is an eating disorder, notably bulimia. The main criterion is avoidance of abandonment, with a chronic feeling of emptiness. but unlike Dependent Personalities, the BPD, reacts with rage, and feelings of emptiness often resulting in self destructive behaviors, recurrent suicidal behaviors, gestures or threats, and self damaging behaviors such as self mutilations This is normally developed at early childhood development due to chronic instability in the home. These children run a higher risk for suicidal thoughts and higher in the young adult years and decreases as they mature.
