The question of how much money to raise through the Open Space tax is a perennial topic in Bergen County. It came up again last week when the Freeholders voted to keep the tax at its current rate of one-quarter cent per $100 of assessed valuation. However, County Administrator Dominic Novelli left the door open to perhaps raising it next year.
In this segment of Record Talk Radio, Novelli talks about the administration's position on the tax. Freeholder David Ganz also weighs in on why he feels that amount is insufficient, given the county's needs.
In the second segment, Retired Marine Captain Ben Cascio talks about what it was like to be asked to give the keynote speech at Friday's Military Appreciation ceremony.
