Chapter 1: House Passes Bill to Criminalize False Claims About Military Honors
The House of Representatives just passed a new version of the Stolen Valor Act which would make it a federal crime to lie about military honors. A similar law had been in effect for six years until the Supreme Court ruled it as unconstitutional last year. The new version of the bill works around the ruling making it illegal only in cases in which someone lies for material profit. A Senate version has been introduced but is waiting committee approval. We talk to Mark Seavey, New Media Manager , American Legion, and an attorney familiar with the Stolen Valor Act law.
Chapter 2: Apple CEO Tim Cook Grilled by Congress About Tax Evasion
Apple CEO Tim Cook visited The Hill today to answer questions regarding accusations his company took advantage of tax loopholes by using a shell company in Ireland to indemnify profits. Cook defended the practices in front of the U.S. Senate Permanent Subcommittee on Investigations earlier today saying they comply with the law and pay all the taxes the company is due. Rather he blamed what he called an outdated tax code and called for a simplified tax system that lowers rates and provides for a reasonable tax on foreign earnings. We talk to Mihir Desai, Professor of Finance at Harvard Business School, and Matthew Gardner with Citizens for Tax Justice and author of the CTJ’s Apple report.
Chapter 3: Congress Considers Reducing Science Funding and Heightening Peer Review Requirements

What's Fair About Taxes?
by The Prime Directive in Politics Conservative
Tags: Fair Tax Steven Hayes income tax Sixteenth Amendment IRS
As this show airs, the Federal Income Tax filing deadline is ten days away. The income tax is undoubtedly the least efficient, unfair, corrupt, and expensive way ever devised to collect taxes. Actually, it is about more than taxes. It is about letting the government pry into, spy on, and control every aspect of your life--a massive invasion of privacy. With the IRS now linked to "Obamacare," the situation only gets worse.
Fortunately, there is a better way to collect taxes. The Fair Tax was devised to implement a simple, equitable, revenue neutral, and efficient system of tax collection where every individual is treated equally.
Steven Hayes, a national spokesperson for the Fair Tax, is our featured guest for the evening. He is here to explain the Fair Tax, why it is superior to the present system, and what you can do to get it implemented.
Further information about the Fair Tax is available from Americans For Fair Taxation.
