The last week in September is Deaf Awareness Week in the United States. Deaf people have their own culture and language. It is not something that a hearing person or someone not born deaf can just assimilate into their life. Many changes have been made in technology that allow Deaf people to more easily communicate with Hearing people, but there is still a gap.

Listen on Monday, Sept. 22, noon PDT/3 p.m. EDT/8 p.m. UK on Purpose Talk Radio as host Cindy Freeman discusses her experiences with learning sign language and about Deaf Culture.  If possible, there may be some Deaf appearing on the show with interpreters to share their culture and answer questions as well.

Additionally, Cindy will speak to Brian Peters, housing specialist at Independence First in Milwaukee.  Brian and Cindy will communicate through an interpreter.

Feel free to cal in and ask questions.
