The Planning Process: The Foundation of Disaster Resistance

An effective hazard mitigation planning process is critical to making your community more disaster resistant. Through the planning process, you can identify the hazards that threaten your community, assess your vulnerability, and build consensus on approaches to reduce future losses. This process leads to the cost-effective, environmentally sound mitigation measures. In fact, the planning process is so critical to the implementation of effective mitigation that many of the FEMA programs that are intended to fund mitigation measures, require a mitigation plan as a condition of funding.

Taking shelter is critical in times of Crisis. Sheltering is appropiate when conditions require you to seek protection in your place of residence, employment, or other areas where disaster can strike. "Violence"...The Unnecessary Necessity. Part 2

In the sixties, in the United States, we were concerned with the increase of violence that was taking place in our society at that time which may have been a half-of-truth; violence became more demorcratic in the decade of the sixties. Instead of resting exclusively with those who construct and maintain ghettos, keep food from the mouths of children, and coerce the young through educational programs and into war, violence became the tool of a widely divergent group seeking equality, power and redress. Let us re-examine the policies of a given society that says in it's constitution, with it's bellowing of its endless creed that: "All men are created equal."

    "Violence"...The Unnecessary Necessity.

In New York City, our young people's lives are being destroyed by this senseless stream of violent tendencies. Murders and killings seem to be an accepted way of life for our children. This is sad and insane to say the least. Our children are stooping to the lowest common denominator... Wild Animals. It gets worst than that, they get their tutelege from art imitating life. When hollywood makes a movie about a infamous individual, and then make he or she a folk hero like "Public Enemy" and then glorify them, this is a recipe for disaster. " without a vision, a people perish." They don't see themselves as part of the problem. They are concocting there own twisted solution, and then giving someone else their ending. Let's examine some of the problems and solutions that are being discussed as we speak. Can we "Stop The Violence?

Swine Flu, another "Pig" in the blanket?

H1N1 could not come at a better time. This is all we need, another pandemic to go along with all the rest of them; loss of jobs, high gas prices, loss of homes, and now, Swine Flu(H1N1). Something else to add to why we must be prepared. We must decide, and, decide we must to properly prepare for this up coming season that brings on such disease and famine to which all is preventable if we just find the courage to remain ever vigilant in being concious and aware of what we do and how we do it.

  • Original Air Date:

    "Increase your chances of survival"

Disaster Preparedness should be an integeral part of our everyday lives. We take a lot of these things for granted, so preparedness, at least in our minds, is based on our feelings rather than something that we should or need to do. We can incorporate preparedness in all we do. All you have to do is ask yourself, when's the last time you read a map, or packed a flashlight in your bag, or even started a fire without the basic utilities that are at our disposal. Remember, there is a thin line between modern technology and "Hoarse & Buggy."
