Is love really enough to make a marriage work? As a licensed marriage and family therapist I have come to believe that one's interprepation of love varies. And in some cases love may not have anything to do with it. So before one decides to marry an individual, what should one do? With the high number of divorces not to mention the high number of individuals that are involved in unhealthy or relationships where there may be issues with domestic violence or other areas of concern we must do something different. I now believe that one should seek assistance before they make a decision to even date. This could save individuals a lot of time, money and heart ache. But is that really realistic. So before one make that decision try premarital counseling.

Marriage is special to God and should be to us. Premarital counseling helps individual improve their ability to communicate, set realistic expectations for the marriage and develop conflict resolution skills. It can also assist couples establish a positive attitude about seeking help throughout their relationship.

One may have many questions as it relates to premarital counseling. Others are still going to do what they want despite the red flags or what others may advise including a professional. I have been married enough times to disucuss the importance of premarital counseling. We have free will. And marriage is honorable. Again, I believe we should explore such counseling while dating just to make sure one is compatible and should even be considering marriage. So let's talk about it.
