Charlotte Innes – Bio 

 

Charlotte Innes is the author of the chapbook, Twenty Pandemicals (Kelsay Books, 2021) and Descanso Drive, a book of poems (Kelsay Books, 2017). She has also published two other poetry chapbooks, Reading Ruskin in Los Angeles and Licking the Serpent, both with Finishing Line Press. Her poems have appeared in many publications, including The Hudson Review, Rattle, The Sewanee Review, Tampa Review, Valparaiso Poetry Review and several anthologies, including The Best American Spiritual Writing for 2006 (Houghton Mifflin, 2006) and Wide Awake: Poets of Los Angeles and Beyond (Beyond Baroque Books, 2015). A former newspaper reporter, freelance writer and teacher, she has written on books and the arts for many publications, including The Nation and the Los Angeles Times. She also tutors students in English and creative writing. Originally from England, Charlotte Innes now lives in Los Angeles.

 

 

My name is Lynda Garcia and I’ve been a High School English Teacher for the last 10 years. I started my running journey as a promise to my students in 2012 when they were freshman that I’d run the LA Marathon with them and Students Run LA (SRLA) their senior year. Running a marathon had not been something I ever thought I could do, so the three-year period would give me enough time to mentally and physically prepare. I ended up keeping my promise to them and trained with Students Run LA as a Friend. I ran my first marathon in 2017. The runner’s high was real as I reached new running milestones because the most I had ever run before was a 5k. Since then, I’ve become a coach for SRLA and have run the LA Marathon five times. I ran the Chicago Marathon in 2021 through the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation charity where I raised almost $3000 for childhood cancer research as
