Everything happens for a reason.

It's a cliche meant to comfort people when certain calamity strikes them. We may use this statement to glide over the fact  we don't understand why our ilves have been turned upside down. Sickness, loss of finances, death of a loved one, etc., a well meaning person may speak this cliche but it only brings a false comfort. When that doesn't work, then it's time to play the 'Blame Game'.

Sad to say, some Christians often blame the person who is being tossed through the storm for their own calamity. "You are dealing with this because of your lack of faith." or  "You're sick because you want to be." "God is trying to get your attention.". These statements are simiply cue cards for the host of the Blame Game. They are not meant to help but to shut up. After all, it's easier to point the finger at the victim than to search for the perpetrator.
