Because our character and conduct begin in the mind. Our actions are affected  by the things we dwell on in our thoughts. We are to cast out negative thinking. Negative thoughts poison the mind, and ultimately the soul. Your thoughts matter! Negative thinking leads to negative living which leads to a disorderly life.

Romans 12:1-2 tells us “Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed  by the renewal of your mind, that you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
