Yes… Change, for a change. Change is often necessary to stop suffering. It is often easy to see suffering in others. We know that it comes in all shapes, flavors, and forms. In this case, I am talking about the most difficult type of suffering – our own. Our personal suffering may be known to the world, or not. The way we acknowledge the suffering determines whether or not there is enough ‘space’ for a change to happen. There are 3 states of awareness that determine how we deal with our suffering. Each state of awareness signifies a different level of potential to change. First, there is suffering in a state of full awareness. We deeply identify with the suffering and by doing so have the most potential to change when the right catalyst comes along. Then there is the suffering that occurs in a state of semi-conscious. We understand that something is not right, we acknowledge it, but the thought of change even when it occurs, is just that, a ‘thought.’ Not something that is actionable. And then of course, there is suffering in a state of complete unconsciousness. When we suffer in a state of complete unconsciousness it is the most difficult for us to acknowledge our role in the suffering and how much we are responsible for the suffering–instead of understanding that whatever it is, it is, we create the suffering and with it, the inability to CHANGE. It’s the state of what I called ‘semi-conscious awareness’ that is particularly meaningful to me, and perhaps, maybe also for you. I’ve been caught over the past several years in a drifting ‘everything is going to be alright, our situation will improve financially for the best’ mindset. I was/continue to/am living in a continual hope for the best in the face of every event that screams out to me for CHANGE. ‘How can I be conscious and continually ignore the best course of action?’ It’s really simple when your investment in who you are, who you think you are, and what people think of you becomes all muddy.
