    Monogamy

Panther's Den Blog Talk Radio Airing: THURSDAY, NOVEMBER 12, 2009, 8pm-10pm Listen live and chat online: www.blogtalkradio.com/Panther-Den (recommended for listening only) or Call in to comment: (347) 677-0846, press #1 to speak with the host. Monogamy: Is it realistic or are we fooling ourselves? In the times of politicians escaping to other countries to be with their mistress and entertainers making jokes about having affairs with co-workers, we must ask ourselves if monogamy just a word in the dictionary or is it something that people still long for? With most Americans, an affair leads to divorce. Other cultures don't view adultery or infidelity as harshly as we do. Are we being too dramatic? Are we expecting too much from our mates? Swingers and Polyamors don't have any problems seeking someone outside of their "main" relationship. Some people have open marriages and are happy with their arrangements. So what's the deal? Is monogamy a thing of the past or is there hope for those who just want to be with that one special person? Meet us in the Den and share your thoughts. Good hair bad hair

8pm-10pm Listen live AND chat at: www.blogtalkradio.com/Panther-Den OR Call in to listen and comment at: (347) 677-0846 From the mouth of black men and women: Black folk have been bestowing good and bad hair sentiments on each other for decades now. India Arie memorialized the debate and put everything on the table with her lyrics, "Good hair means curls and waves. Bad hair means you look like a slave." Now Chris Rock has really aired our dirty laundry in his movie about Black women and their hair. Creamy crack indeed!! So, what's all the fuss? What's really going on with our people and their hair? Tune into the Panthers' Den and join our discussion.

    The Black Community and Homosexuality

Is our failure to accept homosexuality as a real leg of sexuality in the triangle of sexuality creating a black hole in our well-knitted community? Do you know any homosexual men or lesbian women who live on the down-low, afraid to be themselves? Do you want to come out of the closet yourself but are afraid? Tune into the Panthers' Den.let's talk about it.

This age old argument is the crux of self hatred in our community. It has caused jealousy and anger in families, neighborhoods, colleges and even in corporate America. On this episode of the Panthers' Den, we will discuss the myths about being better than each other based on skin color. Tune into the Panthers' Den .let's talk about it.

Are there any Black men who are being daddies to the children they've fathered? This show pays homage to Black fathers everywhere who are present and active in the lives of their children. Child Support - the Great Deal Breaker

Child support has become the pivotal issue that mothers use to determine whether a man deserves to see their children.  Hmmmmm, so if he pays, he deserves to see them.  If he does not pay, he does not deserve to see them.  An interesting conundrum.  Children don't need money, they need their parents. Sure, the money helps the mother meet the needs of the house; but money does not in any way say that a man is or is not a good father.

I learned a long time ago that good men are providers and protectors.  What I've seen, however, is good men get ruined by an angry, vindictive woman who cannot handle the end of their relationship.  Because he left them, she has decided that he is not worthy of being a father. It's like they are thinking that if he doesn't want her, he doesn't want them

I'm not saying it's not his responsibility to take care of his children.  Of course he should take care of his children.  What I am saying is that paying or not paying child support should not be the determinant for whether or not children should see their father.  Did you hear that?  Children should see their father.  The focus should be on the children.  Seeing or not seeing  their father changes a child.  It makes a good child stay good and a bad child get worse.

I don't negate the value of the check.  My sister was a single mother until my nephew was five. That check came in handy for them. I just believe that focusing on the check instead of the children is a bad plan.

    Peace,
    The Diva

Black fathers - present and accounted for!

My father died when I was just 12.  In fact, it was two days before my 13th birthday.  It was an aweful time for my family.  We persevered through the teen years me, my brother and sister experienced and all went to college.  By all accounts, we are all doing well.  Our father  left an indelible mark on our lives.  He'd put some things in place that remained in place even after his death.  Things like be home before the street lights come on; do well in school and respect your elders came naturally after all his years of indoctrination.

My father set the tone for our home. He was a swift and severe disciplinarian who was just as quick at smiling, laughing, hugging, picking up, playing with and encouraging us.  I can still see him throwing my baby brother around to my mother's horror, the baby's glee and our amazement. He always worked multiple jobs to take care of us. He helped me see what I did and didn't want in a husband for me and a father for my children.

There are millions of Black men out there today who are doing the same thing.  Unfortunately, it's the deadbeats who get most of the media play.  Until President OBama came along, the media had the world thinking that good fathers do not exist in the Black community.  In fact, they now have portrayed him as an anomaly as opposed to one of millions.  Black men everywhere are acting daddies to the children they have fathered.  These men have partnered with the mothers of their children and are making co-parenting and blended families work.  They are present and available, addressing the needs of their children and sometimes even addressing the needs of the mothers.

I thank God for my father's impression on me that has remained in tact for over 30 years.  I thank God for the millions of Black fathers everywhere who are teaching their sons to be men and their daughters what to accept from men.  President Obama is not an anomaly.  He is one in an army of millions.

    Peace,
    The Diva
