A teaching background with a degree in Physical Education, English and French from the University of British Columbia (UBC), Joan later acquired a TESL certificate from Vancouver City College (VCC). She taught children, teens, and adults in a varied career from Cranbrook’s cradle in the Rockies to the North Shore’s west coast.
She enjoys cross-country skiing, open-water swimming, bicycle touring and kayaking with her husband, Ken. A bicycle tour of Vancouver Island’s Cowichan Valley will feature in ‘Senior Living’ magazine in 2013. She has published in ‘Coast & Kayak’ magazine and of course in NSWA anthologies, and is this year’s poetry prizewinner for her poem, ‘Sand Castles’ which is now viewable on youtube.
