Watching friends and neighbors arrested for the simple crime of being Jewish, a young couple in Belgium face impossible decisions during WW2. Should they send their two-year-old son into hiding without them? Would that save his life? And what about their newborn daughter?  The author, the daughter of that little boy, recounts the astounding courage that led to her family's survival during the Holocaust. In spite of numerous near-misses, the family not only made it through the war but were reunited when the Nazis were defeated. 
But there was a cost. And maybe it was etched into their very genes.
