Ottawa sculptor Norman Pirollo uses wood as his primary medium, drawing inspiration from its inherent beauty. Born in Toronto and raised in Montreal, he pursued studies in the technology sector. Norman also began to explore art and working with wood as a medium. He pursued alternative studies to master this form of art and today he creates wood art in all forms ranging from sculpture to wall art and one of a kind studio furniture.
Norman continually challenges himself with new techniques and processes, which result in clean, contemporary works celebrating the natural organic forms surrounding us in our environment. His contemporary styled sculptural and wall art are a creative combination of subtle yet dramatic features where his unique designs incorporate unusual graphics found in vibrant woods. His sculpture and wall art are composed of figured woods with unique characteristics to which he infuses colour to depict an image he envisions.
Norman is a member of various art associations and has been the recipient of arts awards as well as participating in numerous juried art shows. His work has also been featured in the following books: "Studio Furniture: Today's Leading Woodworkers", "Wood Art Today 2" and "500 Cabinets" as well as various international magazines. Most recently Norman has been selected as a finalist for the prestigious NICHE Award 2013 in his category.
Norman currently fulfills his quest of creating unique studio furniture through Refined Edge Design. Norman also provides instruction through WoodSkills which he developed to make available the knowledge and expertise he has acquired over the years.
