A lot of good things came out of the protracted Writers Guild of America strike of 2008. At the top of the list, the writers got a better cut of the profits that their talents generate. But I’m talking about content that was created that would not have otherwise existed. MIKE SAGER podcast excerpt: "Journalism depends on your subject. That's another person who has will. It's often very difficult to get the story you need to come back with. That's a game in itself. Writing a novel is sort of this blessed thing that goes on inside your head." Have you ever seen Dr. Horrible’s Sing-a-Long Blog with Neil Patrick Harris, Nathan Fillion, Felicia Day and Simon Helberg? Joss Whedon, his brothers Jed and Zack and Maurissa Tancharden wrote that on spec. It was terrific.
And now journalist Mike Sager, whose work has appeared in Rolling Stone and Esquire, has published an urban thriller that imagines a scenario that took place in Los Angeles for three days alongside the ’08 strike. High Tolerance pokes a finger in the eye of celebrity, movie stars, rappers, Hollywood egos, reporters and more. It’s action- and drama-packed and you won’t have any trouble imagining it leaping to the big screen one day.
