She is the co-founder and Project Director of The Gandhi King Chavez Seasons for Peace and Nonviolence and was the 1993 Program Director for the Parliament of the World's Religions in Chicago. Barbara received an Honorary doctorate of Humane Letters, from the Holmes Institute of Consciousness Studies, and received Religious Science International’s first Peace Award in 2003.
