The oft-stated "reason" that was given for Moonlight's cancellation was poor ratings numbers. Research has shown that Moonlight averaged 7.5 to 8 million viewers each Friday night that aired a new episode. The Nielsen Ratings System is the vehicle by which most television ratings are tabulated. The system is 40+ years old and has changed little over the four decades since its creation. What did the ratings show in regard to Moonlight? How does this compare historically to other shows which air during the week, and to other shows that currently air or have aired in Moonlight's 9pm to 10pm PT/ET time slot? Each week, we will be discussing the current status of Operation Save Moonlight, what the cast and crew are doing, and information on what you can do to help change this antiquated system that, while it may have more accurately represented our viewing habits when it was created 40+ years ago, it no longer accurately reflects viewers' television watching habits.
