I really don't have a problem with the Fighting Sioux nickname at all. My big issue is that the Native American groups have the gall to protest the nickname while there are so many other pressing issues going on their communities. Not more than 100 miles away, in Red Lake, Minnesota, only a few days prior, a Native American kid went on a shooting rampage in his reservation school. That's disgusting. Let's see, illiteracy is rampant on reservations, poverty is rampant in Indian communities, alcoholism/substance abuse is at epidemic proportions, crime is out of control, and you're telling me that somehow a nickname for a university sports team is some kind of huge issue in the American Indian community? Like if the Sioux changed their name to the Mean Green or whatever PC name was chosen, there would be some kind of improvement in quality-of-life for native Americans
