Sunshines on: Saarjia Project

The Saartjie Project, is a volunteer-run artist collective using original boundary stretching performance art as a means of defying and exploring body politics and stereotypes. The collective of poets, singers, dancers, actresses and activists create space for dialogue and promote healing across communities by highlighting the black female experience through art. Our namesake, Saartjie (Sara) Baartman, is the catalyst for our work as we shine humanity in the face of the dehumanizing forces that trapped her and still trap many women today. Our theatrical productions are loosely scripted, based on real issues and thrive off of audience participation.
