The First amendment gives us those rights and the second amendment gives us the right to protect the first!
 
Self defense, personal self defense, is an English concept that carried over to the colonies and our founding fathers perspectives. The right to bear arms is a one of a kind statement: no other country has, or will ever have, a right like the second amendment.
