In todays society, one of the most "feared" people is that "sistah" in the office that is having a bad day. Everybody is "scared" of her wrath. She is also often put in those positions of gatekeepers because of that "skill". No one, including the supervisors would dare cross her, until they have cleared with HR, the path to legal reprimand or termination. If you doubt me, look around your office and see what roles black women play or maybe YOU are that woman. But are they misunderstood? Black women have a tremendous amount of pressures that are not experienced by any other woman in our American society. First of all, they are black! That holds its own dynamic in itself. Many of of them are raising children alone. As a woman they are paid 80 cents on the dollar as compared to men, so their money doesn't stretch as long. Taking that into account, that doesn't always excuse the lack of professionalism that some black woman exhibit in the workplace, around their families, church or in the grocery stores. Are black women their own worse enemies in this perception of them, or are they simply misunderstood? We will explore this with blogger and author, Nina Perez. She has a blog that explores this subject. What can black women do to change this perception of them or do they want to change it. Many feel it is a coping mechanism that empowers them in a world that has stripped them of their power for generations. Word has it, that our money blogger, Keith Reed has a strong opinion on this. Where is Michael Buffer when you need him ( Let's Get ready to RUMBLE!!!!) Join us this Wednesday for this invigorating conversation! Of course Elton Gumbel will have sports. Maybe we can get him to reveal his bracket a little early and Kia will have the hot topics.
