Jesus told the parable of the soil to paint an accurate picture of the people's reaction to his parables (the word). "Wayside" people like some of the religious leaders in Jesus' day refuse to believe God's message. "Rock-hard people, like many in the crowds who followed Jesus believe His message but they never do anything with it. "Thorn-patch" people, are overcome by materialistic things and there is no room for God in their lives. "Good-soil people, will follow Jesus no matter what the cost.
