RG Ingersoll continues the history lesson, as Motown Records was in the process of changing from a record base company to a motion picture production company, the powers that be were fighting among themselves for control at the top.  Gwendolyn Gordy was no exception, as she was the vice president and wrote ALL the checks. The question was why she would finance and produce recordings for Hotrax, Platinum Sound and D-Town Records?  Barney Ales, the "new boy" at the top of Motown Records, systematically began to strip Ms. Gordy of her powers and push the family members out of the controlling seats.
