Join host Shelly Wilson and her special guest, Becki Hawkins. Becki is the author of the book, “Transitions: A Nurse’s Education about Life and Death.”
At 19 years old, Becki Hawkins was a nurse’s aide in a nursing home in 1971. That early exposure to patients and their stories motivated her to go to nursing school a few years later. She became a registered nurse and worked primarily in oncology, outpatient oncology, hospice, home health/hospice, became a hospice chaplain, and did hospice volunteer work. She is now retired and lives with her husband in Pryor, Oklahoma and visits patients on occasion as a friend.
She also enjoys writing a weekly column in The Paper in Pryor titled “Beyond Statistics” which is published every Monday. Her first column was in 1986.
She volunteers at a local ministry center that distributes food and clothes. She kept journals of patients and their stories for over 30 years. This book tells some of these patients’ stories.
