Domestic Violence: We Are All Survivors

It is so pervasive; each of us in this world has been touched by domestic violence. As a survivor, a witness, an advocate, a worker, friend or family member. Despite years of passionate commitment and compassionate actions, the numbers are astounding. In our search for answers, our fears lead us to victim blaming, shaming, judgments and patronizing. Meanwhile the casualties- wounded or dead pile up. How do we stop it?

Not by seeking simple solutions or drowning in clichés and rhetoric. Not by establishing ‘treatments’ and ad campaigns.  It’s a loving act to wear the purple ribbon and support awesome programs. As we do so, we also want to examine violence and take some definitive steps to understand our own day-to-day roles in it.
