Joan is afraid to remarry or change her ‘look’ because she thinks her dead husband would disapprove. She loves bright colors but wears plain outfits in neutral colors; hasn’t changed her hair style in 15 years and wouldn’t dare paint her nails. Her religious beliefs hold her hostage to someone whose physical Self does not exist and whose spiritual Self cannot judge.  After every family gathering or any contact with the majority of his family members, Ahmad is drained, angry, nauseated, frustrated and sometimes, in tears. While he accomplishes his life goals, Family stays mired in drama, always in crisis expecting Ahmad to put out the fires. Despite their dependence on him, they criticize him as stuck up and phony. His belief system says he must endure this because “blood is thicker than water”.  Maria is always tired & drained because she works full time & does all the household chores while her husband and children enjoy their lives. Her belief system says this is a woman’s job and that she must put herself last. Everyone is more important than she is. She hates this but covers it with a fake smile because the women in her family always did it this way.  Carl won’t leave Acme Corp even though he’s been passed over for promotions he deserved and endures daily indignities. His belief system says you get a job & keep it for the benefits and so called security.

Where do these beliefs come from? How do they hinder us? Not reaching your goals? Not sure what you’re supposed to be doing with your life? Wondering how those “happy people” got that way? What is your belief system doing in your life? How do you identify and change an ineffective belief system? Join the InnerNet Divas and learn how to empower yourself!
