“What was done to me is unforgivable and the person who did it does not deserved to be forgiven. It caused me to do hurtful things to other people. I feel bad but I don’t see how forgiving can help. Even if I could let go, what good would it do?” Several of our Members asked this and it is an excellent question. We intend to clarify that forgiving is not for the person who caused us harm. The purpose of forgiving ourselves is not to erase any harm we caused. It represents the lifting of a burden and the canceling of a debt. Letting go frees us to break unproductive patterns and move on. We either learn from painful situations or we surrender to them. We know we need to forgive when we can’t shut down the chatter in our heads – the circumstances replay over and over. We may tell the story over and over or allows others to repeat it again and again. Each time, the same emotions come up. No matter what you “show” outside, the negative emotions bubble and boil inside. You are stuck to the offending person and negative situations. Think of a song that you do not like. Imagine that you cannot escape the sound and you can’t turn it off. Over and over you are hearing something you don’t like; something that cannot produce positive emotion. It is possible to shut down the chatter in your head; to take care of yourself when emotion wells up to overwhelm you. Join The Inner Net Divas and Star Waters of Star Quality Coaching at the kitchen table to talk about how to turn it off so that you can let it go. Discover how you can get free to live like you mean it!
