Today we will be discussing the challenges the holidays present to the elderly and their loved ones. Janet Zielasko, MS, LSW is the Social Services Program Manager for Northshore Senior Center in Bothell, WA. Janet has over twenty years experience in social work, health education programming, organizational development and community service in a variety of settings. Janet recently became the Wellness and Caregiver Support Manager at Northshore Senior Center in Bothell, WA. Northshore Senior Center is affiliated with Senior Services of Seattle. Her work at Northshore Senior Center includes personal consultation, support group facilitation, Brain Fitness programming, caregiver support services, etc. Janet holds a BA degree in Social Work and a MS in Family Life and Community Resources. Janet is licensed as a social worker through the state of Michigan and also has counselor certification through the state of Washington. Her philosophy in working with elders is to support, honor and respect each person so as to foster the enhancement of a healthy, happy, fulfilling lifestyle. Tonight, we will be discussing senior issues such as independence, safety, connecting with the community and Health Care. Also, we will be looking at the issues that the family and loved ones of the elderly deal with; including: mid-life crunch, guilt and worry.
