Hakim Crampton is a youth violence prevention specialist, published author,award-winning poet, activist, mentor, and a survivor of the prison system.
After being wrongly incarcerated for over 15 years, Hakim became a well-known mentor in the Jackson community and within the Jackson Public School District.
Hakim's plethora of awards and accomplishments include being named one of 2011's Best, Brightest, and Most Beautiful People of Lansing, Michigan, and winning the 2012 Hot Top 100 Ranking Artist of the Year at the Spoken Word Billboard Awards.
Mr. Crampton's most recent project is his innovative book S.L.A.M. (Spoken Lyrics with an Academic Mission).

About Your Host:
JoAnnA "JoJo" Perkin is a Canadian-born artist. She has been a high school Englsih teacher for the past sixteen years within the Jackson Public School District (where she has served as Englsih Chair for the last five years). She holds a Master's in Education.
Perkin is the recipient of the national A Day Made Better Award, and was a 2010 Teacher of the Year.
Ms. Perkin currently writes a local column for The Blazer, and for Young Men's Perspective Magazine. In her spare time, she enjoys performing spoken word and featuring/hosting peotry events.
