As this is being typed, Derrick Hodge is enjoying his 41st Birthday (July 5th, 2020). He has experienced SO much in those four decades that this is going to be difficult to condense!

Philadelphia & Willingboro, New Jersey are his roots. At SIX, he was gravitating to all kinds of music. Gospel, Pop, Jazz, Orchestral. At Temple University (Mama's school!), Derrick studied Jazz composition & performance. He was the FIRST Jazz Major to participate in the University's Symphony Orchestra. While experiencing this incredible, unique journey, our inspirational guest found his footing in musical diversity. Playing with Philly legend Bootsie Barnes and Terrell Stafford - from the other side of the aisle: Jill Scott, Musiq Soulchild & Floetry.

To say that Derrick Hodge developed a fabulous reputation WOULD be an understatement. Specifics: With Common on his #1 "Be" as well as production on "Finding Forever." Music Director for Maxwell for nearly a decade. Grammy by association: as part of Robert Glasper's Experiment via "Black Radio." And with Terence Blanchard for THAT visonary's "A Tale of God's Will (A Requiem for Katrina)"

The names that are part of Derrick's history: Herbie Hancock, Mos Def, Sade, Donald Byrd, Mulgrew Miller, Timbland - it's insanity. But that's what this multi-instrumentalist, composer, and producer brings to the table. We haven't even scratched the surface with his film projects and arranging.

"Color of Noize" is why this brilliant artist is visiting on Tuesday, the 7th of July. His 3rd for Blue Note, this is his FIRST to use a live band throughout the process. Derrick Hodge is USED to firsts. He's on bass, keys, guitar & voice. Not too intimidating, right?!!!  LOL!

The Chat Room WILL be open on the 7th. We expect a Full House. THIS is Derrick Hodge, after all :)
