The last time that Philip Lassiter visited "Hybrid Jazz", we were pitching his "Dreamzzz" project.  So much has happened since then!  DUH, right?  But in Phil's case, that's significant.  Love, marriage, challenges that would take down weaker humans, rising UP to defeat ALL - then this: "Party Crashers!"

Living in Los Angeles, Philip met Elliott Yamin of "American Idol" fame - and they grew to understand how much they had in common with a primary goal.  That is to create heavy-hitting FUNK with horns and soulful vocals.  Let's just say that this latest work is THAT and THEN some!

Backdrop on our guest: Philip was born in Mobile, Alabama - the son of a Pentecostal minister.  So you already KNOW the reason for the fire, right?  LOL!  Phil's Dad made it a point to musically diversify the congregation so that there was full-blown GOSPEL heard in that Church.  As a result, a tiny boy (five) plunked out "Amazing Grace" on the piano.  Mom was so overcome that she immediately booked lessons for him.  When Phil chafed at the idea of rigidity within those lessons, his Mother made sure to find other teachers to accommodate him.  Guess what?  Philip is STILL chafing!

That total lack of "rigid" is what makes this amazing talent stand OUT.  That he picked up the trumpet was a life-changing decision.  Having learned true professionalism in Dallas, Philip morphed into playing, producing and arranging Grammy award-winning acts (Fred Hammond and Kirk Franklin).  But it was PRINCE that gave Phil the RUSH of his lifetime.  When Prince asked his new hire to voice chords for the horn section, Phil delivered on the SPOT.  And Prince dropped to his knees!

Hey, that's the way this man ROLLS!  Hah!  You'll LOVE the music.  7/10/18.  Crash our Party!
