A pivotal song on the new album by Orrin Evans is the Jerome Kern/Oscar Hammerstein treasure, "All the Things You Are." It could have been written for our guest - there's quite a litany of ALL that he is and does :)  A pianist of rare ability.  Composer, Bandleader, Teacher, Producer and Arranger.  AND devoted Husband And Father.  Which is central to this profoundly creative body of work, called "The Evolution of Oneself."  Dawn Warren Evans actually plays a strong role in this new offering from her husband - the way in which she does is deeply moving.  Theirs is a deep relationship and the reason for inspiration for this music.  Matthew, Orrin and Dawn's son, also is involved.  It's a beautiful family affair - and that family extends to include fellow Philadelphia, Christian McBride - and the amazing Karriem Riggins on drums.

You'd expect, that after 25 albums as both leader and co-leader, Orrin would be well-versed in the intricate fruit of all that is Jazz.  But he expands his repertoire here - including caviar tastes of Neo-Soul, Hip Hop and Country (wait until you hear Marvin Sewell on guitar tear up "Wildwood Flower!")

Orrin has a incredible resume, with a Rutgers University education (and study with Kenny Barron) - and a shared stage experience with beloved artists like Pharoah Sanders, Gary Bartz, Common and Sean Jones.  Sean will play with Orrin when Chris' Jazz Cafe welcomes their hometown hero on 9-18/19.  Top drawer talent will converge there on those nights - not necessarily to play - but to support a nurturing musician who deserves attention.  Man alive, does he EVER deserve attention,  After having seeing Orrin as Music Director/Keyboardist for Joanna Pascale at HER CD release party, this writer can tell you: we're witnessing greatness.  Join us on 12/15 and HEAR for yourself.
