There are some artists that breathe life into a genre.  And there are others who not only think outside the box - but fold the box a different way :)  Enter Iris Ornig!

Our next guest is a bassist, composer, arranger and performer.  And her love for Michael Jackson goes back to her childhood days in Germany.  She would dance to his music while posters of him in her room looked on.  Iris has made a wonderful career since her move to New York in 2003.  She has played with some of the most remarkable artists in Jazz.  And she has created amazing music - we got to know her via her "No Restrictions" album from a few years ago.  But she has NEVER forgotten her adoration for MJ.

All of her education/training has prepped her for this shining moment.  Iris studied Jazz and Popular Music in St. Gallen, Switzerland - then, she attended Guildhall School in Music and Drama in London.  She has played in multiple countries with a strong perch now in The Big Apple at the Kitano, a most respected Jazz club.

Deciding to finally delve into the Michael Jackson songbook, Iris realized how hard it was to "re-do" those beloved songs.  It was easier to create from one's imagination - rather than tackle someone else's material.  And she didn't want to play it safe. She wanted to find ways of expressing her respect that would capture the essence of the song, done instrumentally, but without the specific melodies involved.  You'll recognize "Billie Jean" - but she comes in different clothes :)

We're blessed to have tracks from a special live show that Iris debuted on 5/21 at Kitano.  She has definitely "Re-Imagined" Michael Jackson and you'll feel the love in every note.  Two hours of music on 7/7/2015 - and Iris joins us at three p.m. Eastern.  See you in The Chat Room!
