Our guest is starring at the world-famous Blues Alley on Tuesday, 9/10/2013, so "Hybrid Jazz" will be heard on MONDAY instead of its usual day.

For Kevin Toney?  You had better believe that I'll accommodate him!  Not only because his music has been thrilling us for YEARS - since the 70's when he was at Howard University with The Blackbyrds - but his solo career that followed.  We have songs that dance in our head from Kevin from long ago..."Rock Creek Park", "Walking in Rhythm", "Kings", Aphrodisiac"...and his latest album is a culmination of all that has been experienced in his life, including an epiphany a few years ago.

That huge change resulted in a book, "The Virtuous Man: Breaking the Mens' Code."  So many familes have been profoundly affected by Kevin's clarily and courage in relaying his story of God breaking him down - in order to build him UP.  His music, thereafter, reflected his overwhelming gratitude.  Not only for his new-found faith, his wife, his extraordinary philanthropic interests - which would be enough reason for an interview! - but also for his country.  "New American Suite" is an exhilarating ride across the USA, stopping to smell the roses - and history - via instrumental music.  A gorgeous work!  And we'll discuss the inspiration for ALL of it - the music, the book, the Los Angeles-based "Manformation Project" that Kevin and his wife oversee.

How many artists do we know that are this hands-on regarding life and faith?  LIVING and walking the walk?  Kevin Toney has a new devotion to doing just that.  He has recorded and/or performed with superstars: Wonder, Whitney, Sinatra - but I'll bet that you hum HIS music as much as you do theirs.  That's the power of longevity.  And, Kevin would say, the power of God.
