Hybrid Jazz From Trish Hennessey - with Dr. Dawn Norfleet!

You will ALWAYS see a title used when a title has been earned here - such is the case of Dr. Dawn Norfleet.

Born in Los Angeles with a heart for music - nurtured by a musical family - she learned a lot about singing and flute on her own.  By the time she hit college, she was ready for the next level.  Graduating with honors from Wellesley College, she leaped into the arms of music - earning a Masters in Music Composition.  Then, a PHD in Ethnomusicology - both from Columbia University.

While in New York City, Dawn spent exhaustive hours learning about the Hip Hop scene - this for her doctoral research.  While discovering the excitement of one genre, our guest found herself entranced with the Jazz community.  She spend a good part of the 90's, soaking up the ambience of the smoky clubs - as both a member of groups and as bandleader.

Dawn's reputation has brought her to the attention of her hometown elite - and she has worked with the best in the business, who recognize the best in HER.  Bringing elements of Funk and World Beat into her Jazz mix, Dr. Norfleet re-defines the word "hybrid" - and you'll hear that on her new CD - the subject for our discussion on Tuesday, the 26th.
