Drummer extraordinaire Ernest Coleman began his life's journey in Naples, Italy. His Dad was a tenor saxman who also arranged and composed, so young EC absorbed Jazz early and often.
Blessed to have been educated at the Naval Conservatory of Music in Norfolk, EC was awarded a special honor for being the youngest graduate there - then went on tour with the Navy Band.
He found himself thereafter in L.A. to pursue music full time and theatrical productions found HIM. He worked on quite a few and got the attention of the great Loretta Holloway who hired him for her adventures in Las Vegas. Opening for Bill Cosby, Whoopi Goldberg, Don Rickles and more was heady stuff indeed. Gravy: getting to tour in Russia, Japan, Brazil and the Virgin Islands. EC was with Loretta for 12 years, and spend much of that time as her Musical Director - where he would sometimes conduct - in an orchestral mode - while behind his drums.
In time came a nurturing relationship with the great Jazz bassist, Al McKibbon - and a partnership developed with Frank Sinatra's pianist, Vincent Falcone. Work with Kevin Toney, Diahann Carroll, Kenny Burrell and Jay Leno - as well as two orchestras from the legendary Harrah's (in Reno and Tahoe) - all of this paved the way for Ernest Coleman to take that step and do music that was his.
That amazing signature drum is now on his sophormore effort, "Her Eyes at Sunset." And he's touring in support of the CD, bringing a fabulous group of musicians with him to our area in Baltimore/DC - very soon.
Enjoy hearing about an intensely satisfying musical history when EC joins us on Thursday. We'll start the show at one p.m. Eastern time with him - and play tracks that will stir your soul.
You know where to find the music - and you know how to open the door to our lively Chat Room! We'll see you soon!
