If you are a fan of Take 6, Manhattan Transfer, or even go back further to the ear bliss that was Lambert, Hendricks and Ross - then you probably KNOW about Afro Blue.  If you have been a fan of the popular TV show, "The Sing-Off", then I KNOW you have heard of this amazing vocal group.

Afro Blue is the pride of Howard University - where the group's orgins began in the Spring of 2002.  Since that time, this force of nature has had tremendous success.  9 Down Beat Magazine Student Music Awards..."Best Graduate College Vocal Jazz Ensemble" for 2009/2010/2011.

In June of this past year, the buzz of Washington, D.C. area was the Afro Blue Reunion Jazz Choir, merging magic and voices with Bobby McFerrin.  In November, there was an all-star tribute to Billy Taylor and Afro Blue was there.  And make no mistake: even though the group might not have won "The Sing Off," Afro Blue WAS the crowd favorite.

That certainly was the case at The Wammies the other night (Washington's answer to the Grammies!) - Afro Blue walked away with two awards and brought the house down with a performance that are still making heads bop!

Afro Blue is set to star in a benefit for a cause that is close to MANY of our hearts: The MusicianShip.  Jeff Tribble will be on hand - along with Danielle Withers and Reggie Bowens - to talk about this powerful show, scheduled for early March.  Even though you might not live in the area, you can find out how YOU can help kids and instruments find one another.  That's what The MusicianShip does.  It was an idea whose seed was planted by the late, great Dianne Grainger - and her mission continues to be in motion by Jeff.  It will be an inspiring and encouraging hour of music and positive talk from talents that have set the world on fire with joy!
