Thank you for your support!  It will be an honor to represent District 5 on the Alabama State Board of Education.

I am a daughter of the Alabama Blackbelt where I have spent the greater portion of my life and I know and understand the needs of Alabama’s school children. Born and raised in Choctaw County, educated in public schools, I know the value of education in the life of a student.

My work for more than two decades as both an educator at the secondary and college levels, combined with residencies in the arts with students of all ages, has given me an insiders’ view.    In my work in schools in the Blackbelt of Alabama, I have observed that children who were afraid or reluctant to speak up in class, would embrace the artist within, increase their learning, work out discipline problems, and become better students in general.

I will advocate for more comprehensive services to provide for the social, academic, and behavioral needs of the whole child. If we believe that all children are a gift, not a problem and that they are capable of achieving excellence, our communities will grow and prosper.

I believe I am best to fill the position of Alabama State Board of Education, District 5 for many reasons. I love the state of Alabama, and all of its children; I have decades of firsthand experience and success working with Alabama’s school children. I have spent my entire working life in pursuit of these goals; and want every child to have the best education possible, to be able to live a healthy contributing life, won’t you get on board with me and vote Tuesday, March 3, 2020.
