Tanzanian Mother Starts the Green Foundation Service Organization in America

GREFOS is a global volunteer-led and powered non-profit organization based in Zanzibar, Tanzania.Our mission is to promote community and resource development and improvement through a broad spectrum of small, targeted, locally-powered projects with a sustainable approach--to address increasingly complex, larger scale needsand issues in this part of E. Africa.

Saida Saleh founder of the Green Foundation Service Organization talks about the mission of her organization.

What is the importance of a foundation like GREFOS in the world?We cover a broad range of issues that, while there are many, can be handled by local communities if the material resources to make change are there. The main purpose is to reduce social degradation and poverty from uncontrolled environmental exploitation which was neglect in the past.In 2012, for example, our pilot project was a biogas program, followed by a school building campaign in the village of Mlimboni.

2. What can people listening to this show do to support your organization?We love support. You can visit our website to stay tuned to our progress and offer suggestions or help. Of course there IS some cost attached to our projects and for facilitating our volunteers, so money is always needed that cannot be found itself in these areas. I mostly fund-raise for these projects in the United States, and without those funds, GREFOS wouldn’t be able to continue.
