Jon Moulton, Founder of Better Capital, joins Finance IQ to discuss Distressed Debt and to offer his best practice tips on tackling the market. With a long and distinguished career in the financial industry, he talks about some of the stand-out deals he’s been involved with. Next, Jon offers his views on the economic malaise which we find ourselves in today, commenting on the prospects in the UK and Europe - and the future of turnaround and distressed investing. He then explains how he distinguishes between a business with the possibility of a turnaround versus a business in a permanent secular decline - outlining how much valuation comes into play versus the possibility of getting your hands dirty in the business to improve operating results. The interview also looks at the ideal management team - we ask Jon how he finds the particular CEO that can turn a certain business around. We also ask which investors he admires, and specifically which ones have shaped the way he approaches deals. Finally, the interview looks at the significant amount of capital that has been raised by private equity and distressed debt hedge funds in the US to effectively pick up assets on the cheap. Here, Jon talks about whether he sees this phenomenon occurring in the UK and Europe in general - and whether he approaches deals more cautiously in these types of environments. Jon Moulton will be presenting on the specialist speaker panel at the European Investing in Distressed Debt Forum 2010, due to take place in London from 26th - 27th October.
