There is  comparison. One that might teach us a thing or two about authenticity. Most reasonable men would not have to go as far as my perposterous comparision but judge for yourself.  A Chess Grand Master.  Has anyone ever earned the designation with as much resolve as this man. Wrong so wrong to compare us, but there you have it.  And I have no explanation for the thoughts that run through my head to find the ethical statement that supports our current dilemma- the doubts.  But you might say, that is not the point. And I would agree. Unfortunately, I am forced to ask- what is the point if merit is not in play? The playing field has never been level. Today, we are steeped in materialism, not just the lyrics of a pop song but it has become the measure of everything from success and power, to failing.  Yet I ask, how do we explain the arts and sciences? All but the most stable universities have had to assess success in terms of viability.  It takes money to pay for the frills and genius. And that takes students whose interests seem primarily aimed at professions that come with great responsibility and great financial value.    Are we ready to offer a reasonable explanation for this glance at the light of reason?  It does not erase awareness as much as stream it toward self-directed learning.  And that's what's happened.  Not at an industrial level by any means, but as an undercurrent of accountability. Then say it in other words. Say in in plane words but say it in some words.  A nation void of ethics, without a statement of principle, is lost. Except for us. We are the exception to those claims.  We uphold virtue, principles and morality, even if it is a claim that is a ruthless test of conviction. Only a man who accepts the challenge willilngly earns his way into the narrative. We happen to be a portal that is wider today than it was when great grandfathers walked the halls.
