Acknowledgement is only a partial success for the Order. As history reveals, Masonry has never been popular. It has a philosophical architecture that doesn't suit the marketplace and never has. Espousing principles by which to live a better life has been actively challenged in various inventions by church and state.  Despite the express effort to demystify,  the thoughtlessness of idle chatter and the odd effort to rebuff, masonry is widely accepted as a secret society. When people make decisions based on emotion, they wade into irrational thoughts. It can be a fine line between indifference and irritation.  Do we really expect the general public to be enthusiastic about a society of men?  Perhaps at best this is naive or is it a little self-serving?  Audacious? Perhaps.   Masonry is the difference between tuning in popular music and analyzing opera.  One pleases the ear in the moment. The other has extracted deep emotion from audiences for centuries. Millions have an appetite for the one.  A select small audience of devotees is entranced by the drama and gravitas. Being part of an esoteric movement means being prepared for unyielding criticism.  Some would understand the way society is structured makes this inescapable.  We are made to be self-conscious about our public image though titillating stories from the past, being mindful and finding the maturity to be responsive.  Masonry, does not change the essential man but influences character for those humble and sensitive enough to seek. It is not meant to be difficult but it is also without purpose for those who feel constrained by the task before them.  I once began asking why I hated things before understanding? To this day, without a suitable answer it is hard to hate.  Everything can be explored by the courageous. Some forces are greater than ambitions.  Is there an answer for every question.
