On My Street.  (Edith Piaf> Zazz)

"Teleological theories differ on the nature of the end that actions ought to promote.  Eudaemonist theories (Greek eudaimonia, "happiness") holds that ethics consists in some function or activity appropriate to a man as a human being.  They tend to emphasize the cultivation of virtue or excellence in the agent as the end of all action. These could be the classical virtues- courage, temperance, justice, and wisdom- promoting the Greek ideal of man as the 'rational animal" or the theological virtues of faith, hope and love.  (Encyclopedia Brittania).   Masonry has been mining this geometry for a great long time.

We step off the high street of knowledge into a darkened side alley. It curves so much the end isn't seen. The sounds are different. Men hurry by, bent to their purpose.  Younger ones step through in earnest as students have done since they walked the streets of the east and middle east.  They stand up from their trade, oddly observant, oddly confident that they know what they don't know. If we look back it doesn't help reach the goal- but it confirms we finally have a compass in hand and are navigating an ocean as masons have always done.

Oceans of information, carry us to self-directed learners. So many like-minded people who disappear into the shadows as quickly as they come out- but a flash of apron, a subtle grip and we move past one another, as audacious as a sunrise over, or as intoxicating as a candle lite dinner.  I hope we meet soon.
