Host Tom Merrill explores issues and challenges faced by the volunteer firefighter today. Being a professional firefighter has nothing to do with earning a paycheck but has everything to do with attitude, appearance, commitment and dedication.

Tonight's show will focus on the important topic of training in the volunteer fire service. Tom will speak with guest Dayton (OH) Fire Captain Brad French, who is a member of the Board of Directors for the International Society of Fire Service Instructors and comes well equipped to talk about getting our members fired up for training.

No matter what role you play in your hometown volunteer fire department, you owe it to yourself, your fellow firefighters and the residents you serve to be as prepared as possible to fulfill the duties expected of you. Training should never stop and  Captain French will review various ideas for training our members and also discuss the very important role company officers play in not only teaching our members, but motivating them to attend drills as well.
