St. Florian – 3rd century officer in the Roman army. In addition to his military duties, he was in charge of firefighting brigades. He is the patron saint of firefighters.
We all know why firefighters exist in our cities but we might not all know the importance of their jobs. Firefighters primarily extinguish fires that threaten civilian populations and property and to rescue people from danger. These hard workers used to only be men and were referred to as firemen, however, now many women fight the fires that threaten our cities so the team was changed from firemen to firefighters.
To become a firefighter a college degree is not required however some do go to college and earn an associate or a bachelor degree in fire science. In these classes the soon to be firefighters will learn things such as how to control a fire with equipment or how to inform their communities on how to prevent fires. A college degree is not required to become a firefighter because most skills are learned on the job or in training. There are several different types of firefighters found around the world including the following; career firefighters, volunteer firefighters and retained firefighters. Firefighters also on average work a fifty-six hour week with eight to twenty-four hour shift. Firefighters serve in an important spot in our communities and are vital to the safety of our families and friends.
Please support our firefighters who daily place their lives on the line. I am dedicating this show to support our firefighters across the UNITED STATES! I will welcome call ins for those who have family members who are firefighters to share stories of courage and heroism. Please feel free to also call in for prayer as you feel led. There are so many times what these precious ones do for our country so sleflessly, we need to honor and support them. Tune in Saturday evening to show your support, and offer any stories that will also inspire and encourage all of us to send prayers and loving support to these precious ones..

Wildfires may be just a newsflash on Long Island where the cool fall air does not signal a water shortage. But these are perhaps the two most significant issues of the American Southwest. Water is the most ignored at-risk commodity in the artificially lush Los Angeles area that has literally made water run uphill as it carelessly drained the water recourses of the state. In parallel, the recent rash of suspicious fires is a scary reminder of the death and destruction that sears through the region each year. The tinderbox of homes and trees are clearly at the mercy of nature and sociopathic arsonists testing skill and daring of the first responders…. the thin line of defense against wildfires.
About the Book: Tunnel Visions
Working 5 miles inside a water tunnel in 1971, Willie Carter was one of 17 men killed in a methane explosion. The ensuing underground fire burned for two days before Los Angeles firefighters could attempt a rescue in what became known in California as the Sylmar Tunnel disaster.
Tunnel Visions, a work of “faction,” blends fact and fiction, weaving together the historical facts of the Sylmar disaster, the current struggle for control over California's diminishing water supply, and a fictional plot to attack Los Angeles' water delivery system.
Tunnel Visions occurs on a single day, during which Nick and Cindi experience a series of harrowing events as they attempt to stop an act of eco terrorism.
Kurt Kamm’s expertise in the parallel issues of water and fire educates his readers in the telling of a fictional story laced in facts … providing a deeper understanding of the men and women across the country who fight the fires … and the politics. au
