Music tonight by David Rovics.

The "Light Up Their Phones" campaign begins this weekend in Kansas.

The Kansas House is all that stands between our schools and additional funding.  The Senate passed a budget that mirrors Sen. Sub. for HB2200.  This would increase the base state aid by $74 per pupil, allow for small incremental increases in the LOB, and provide additional equalization aid for property poor school districts.  While this will not restore funding to the levels our students need, it a step in the right direction.
They will be debating school finance next week, and we need you to call your representative this weekend at home. You may call their home, their office and send them e-mails requesting that they adopt the bi-partisan plan approved by the Senate.  Let them know we won't stand for larger class sizes and higher fees for families!
Both chambers are likely to vote on a tax plan that will shift the tax burden from the wealthy to those that can least afford it.  This plan will cost the state $600 million annually by 2018.  The amount of economic growth to cover this tax cut will need to be tremendous.
