Why Are republicans Such Hyporites?

As you all know there seems to be a double standard in the Republican Party.

It seems that whenever there is a scandal the Republicans always try to cover it up or keep it hush hush. But when there is a scandal in the Democratic Party, the Republicans act as if the world is about to end.

I think the reason this appears so is due to the nature of those who make up their respected parties. Contemporary republicans have an authoritarian streak, at least since Reagan who coined the term, "thou shalt not speak ill of a fellow republican".
